April 29, 2014

Mobile phone app allows customers to use smart phones to pay for parking- No need for quarters to feed parking meters!

Bloomfield Parking Authority (BPA) today announced their new mobile payment solution for parking meters throughout the Township.  The service will be available at all Bloomfield parking meters starting April 30th, 2014.

Customers will be able to park without feeding quarters into parking meters. The Parkmobile application is a convenient way to pay for parking. The alert system will also allow customers to easily add parking time and help prevent motorists from getting an overtime violation,” said Glenn Domenick, Executive Director of the BPA.

Customers can pay for parking with their cell phone using Parkmobile’s mobile applications for the iPhone, Android, Windows 7, and Blackberry smartphones. To use the new Parkmobile system, customers register for free at Once registered, they can use a mobile app, the internet, or call toll free to pay for parking. After setting up the account, customers can immediately start using the system with their registered mobile phone. They can also select the option to receive text message alerts and reminders.

"Parkmobile is very excited to launch our mobile payment parking service in Bloomfield," said Cherie Fuzzell, CEO of Parkmobile USA, Inc. “We are glad to extend the offering to another progressive city in NJ. With this technology, customers no longer have to search for change at their destination. Our mobile payment service is an example of another technology that can make our lives easier and more efficient.”

After setting up the account, customers can immediately begin to purchase parking via the mobile app by entering the zone number listed on the meter and paying by method of credit card, debit card, PayPal or Parkmobile Wallet. Although payment does not integrate with the meter itself, parking officers will be equipped with a handheld device used to identify Parkmobile payments.

“This technology offers customers an alternative way to pay for parking. Parkmobile is an example of another technology that can make our lives easier and more efficient, added Michael Chioco, BPA Maintenance Department Manager.

Mobile app users may also choose to receive alerts and reminders 15 minutes prior to expiration of their parking session. Time limits still apply and Parkmobile will not allow users to purchase more time than allotted by the meters. A 35 cent transaction fee will be charged to initiate a parking session. This is in addition to the regularly charged parking fees.

Parking rates on all meters will remain unchanged and coin payment will continue to be accepted.  The BPA is introducing Parkmobile’s innovative technologies and services to enhance the experience of motorists.  The new pay by phone solution is an ideal parking option, and is simple and convenient.
